Spin Glasses on Thin Graphs

چکیده

In a recent paper [1] we found strong evidence from simulations that the Ising antiferromagnet on “thin” random graphs Feynman diagrams displayed a mean-field spin glass transition. The intrinsic interest of considering such random graphs is that they give mean field theory results without long range interactions or the drawbacks, arising from boundary problems, of the Bethe lattice. In this paper we reprise the saddle point calculations for the Ising and Potts ferromagnet, antiferromagnet and spin glass on Feynman diagrams. We use standard results from bifurcation theory that enable us to treat an arbitrary number of replicas and any quenched bond distribution. We note the agreement between the ferromagnetic and spin glass transition temperatures thus calculated and those derived by analogy with the Bethe lattice or in previous replica calculations. We then investigate numerically spin glasses with a ±J bond distribution for the Ising and Q = 3, 4, 10, 50 state Potts models, paying particular attention to the independence of the spin glass transition from the fraction of positive and negative bonds in the Ising case and the qualitative form of the overlap distribution P (q) for all of the models. The parallels with infinite range spin glass models in both the analytical calculations and simulations are pointed out. Submitted to Nucl. Phys. B. [FS]

Metastable states of a ferromagnet on random thin graphs

We calculate the mean number of metastable states of an Ising ferromagnet on random thin graphs of fixed connectivity c. We find, as for mean field spin glasses that this mean increases exponentially with the number of sites, and is the same as that calculated for the ±J spin glass on the same graphs. An annealed calculation of the number 〈NMS(E)〉 of metastable states of energy E is carried out...

Optical properties of spin-coated Er-doped Ga1As39S60 Chalcogenide thin films

Spin-coating of Chalcogenide glasses is a cost-effective and flexible method to produce thin films applicable in photonics. In this paper Er was doped into Ga1As39S60 glass by melt quenching technique and solutions for spin coating were prepared from glass powders dissolved in Propylamine and Ethylendiamine. Substrates used were microscopic slides (refractive index of about 1.51). Applied layer...

Numerical results for ground states of mean-field spin glasses at low connectivities

An extensive list of results for the ground-state properties of spin glasses on random graphs is presented. These results provide a timely benchmark for currently developing theoretical techniques based on replica symmetry breaking that are being tested on mean-field models at low connectivity. Comparison with existing replica results for such models verifies the strength of those techniques. Y...

Reversal-field memory in the hysteresis of spin glasses.

We report a novel singularity in the hysteresis of spin glasses, the reversal-field memory effect, which creates a nonanalyticity in the magnetization curves at a particular point related to the history of the sample. The origin of the effect is due to the existence of a macroscopic number of "symmetric clusters" of spins associated with a local spin-reversal symmetry of the Hamiltonian. We use...

Slow Relaxation of Spin - Cast Poly ( methyl methacrylate ) Confined in Thin Films

Although the volume relaxation of bulk homopolymer glasses is thoroughly understood, many questions remain about the volume relaxation of polymers cast from solvent. Furthermore, in polymer thin films, the possible effects of confinement, surfaces and interfaces on relaxation are largely unexplored. Measurements of the film thickness of spin-cast poly(methyl methacrylate) thin films over extend...
